A West-side man, charged with stealing an ambulance with a patient inside, is being held on $50,000 bail.
Bail for 27-year old Jimmy McCoy of the 4800 block of West Superior Street was set Sunday, according to the Sun-Times.
Police say McCoy stole the ambulance in the West Garfield Park neighborhood around 11 a.m. Saturday morning, with paramedics and a patient inside.
The paramedics were working on a diabetic patient in the back of the ambulance, when, according to police, McCoy jumped in the driver’s seat of Chicago Fire Department Ambulance 23.
"They began to feel the ambulance move," Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Michael Cheronis told Cook County Judge James R. Brown at the bond hearing.
The paramedics radioed for help, and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications, notified police and firefighters, who had responded to the medical call along with the paramedics, Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
Truck 26 firefighters saw the moving ambulance, and caught up with it, blocking at Madison St. and Kostner Ave., about two blocks away.

McCoy was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 15.
The patient who was being evaluated by paramedics was transferred to another ambulance and taken to a hospital in a non-life-threatening condition, Langford said.
