2 Charged With Murder of Candy Store Owner

A man and woman have been charged in the slaying of a shopkeeper inside his West Side candy shop last week.

Elvin Payton, 26, of the 700 block of North Avers Avenue, has been charged with first-degree murder and Beatrice Rosado, 24, also of the 700 block of North Avers Avenue, has been charged with first-degree murder and battery, according to police News Affairs.

Both are charged in the death of Michael Norton, who was shot at his store on May 14.

Payton allegedly has a criminal record and is affiliated with the Spanish Cobras street gang, according to an alert dispatched to police officers.
