Block 37 has had development problems for years.

There's apparently no fear of the number 13 here.

The developer of the beleaguered Block 37 said Tuesday that 13 new retailers have signed on as tenants in the massive retail space.

The announcement comes as developer Joseph Freed and Associates LLC faces foreclosure on the property. Bank of America said recently that it has lost confidence in Freed and doubts the project will be completed, according to court filings cited by Crain's.

The new tenants include cosmetics retailer Sephora, Chicago fashion designer Michelle Tan, Chicago women's boutique Claudia Kleiner Malabar Collection, Bleeding Heart Bakery, Alternative Shoes and Comic Vault, Crain's Real Estate Daily reported.

Freed is continuing with plans to open the mall by Thanksgiving and fully competing the project by the end of next year.
