White House, City Honor AIDS Foundation Leader

The City of Chicago and the White House have recognized AIDS Foundation of Chicago president and CEO David Munar for his work.

President Barack Obama named Munar a "Champion of Change'' last month. The weekly award goes to Americans who've helped the nation meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the City Council adopted a resolution Wednesday congratulating Munar.

Munar helped found the Coalition for a National AIDS Strategy. He was appointed president and CEO of the AIDS Foundation in February.

Munar, a bilingual Colombian-American and gay man living with HIV, is also an avid runner. He's in training now to complete five endurance events this year: the Chicago Half Marathon, the Chicago Triathlon, the Chicago Marathon, the New York Marathon and the Honolulu Marathon.
