We get the warning, but with cases dwindling we're hopeful for the virus' eventual disappearance.
Heard enough about swine flu? Well, that may be because in Illinois there has just been so darn much of it.
The number of H1N1 flu cases is now tipping the scales at over 3,100 infected people, health officials said. The virus has caused 13 deaths.
The Illinois Department of Public Helath released the new numbers of diagnosed people Thursday.
The good news is? The rate of new cases is steadily decreasing on a weekly basis. There have been 291 probably and confirmed new cases in the last week, raising the total 3,166.
The bad news is, some counties that have previously avoided the virus are reporting their first cases.
A 13-year-old boy and 45-year-old man are being treated with antiviral medication in cases that were confirmed Wednesday and last Friday, St. Clair County’s health department said.
In nearby Madison County, a 12-year-old boy and a 32-year-old woman have contracted the virus, health officials said.
