The Mayo Clinic reports that a form of dementia often mistaken for Alzheimer's is preventable.

Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) can strike suddenly from a stroke. Or it may develop in the brain over the years.

As VCI advances, it cause ireversible damage to the brain and results in Alzheimer-type symptoms.

The good news is that quitting smoking, eating right, exercising, and managing stress prevents it.
