Nurses and administrators of the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago have reached a tentative agreement that ends the threat of a walkout.
Members of the Illinois Nurses Association were scheduled to walk off the job Tuesday after an impasse over a new contract. Union leaders now say a strike won't take place.
The nurses had expressed concern the hospital planned to cut the number of experienced nurses providing direct patient care. The nurses also were opposed to a proposal that would allow the hospital to change their schedules within 24-hours' notice.
Chris Martin of the Illinois Nurses Association on Monday did not reveal the terms of the new contract, which the union is recommending the hospital's 1,100 nurses accept.
