Illinois has seen an increase in reported cases of swine flu and is among the top three states with the most reported illnesses.

On Friday, the number cases national cases reached 21,449 and the number of deaths had doubled to 87, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Illinois saw 500 more cases than the last report and have the most reported illnesses along with Wisconsin and Texas. But CDC officials said most of the most recent flu activity has been in the Northeast, with one quarter of the new deaths in New York.

Earlier this week, an 8-year-old Oak Forest girl and two Chicagoans died last week after contracting the virus, according to Chicago Department of Public Health spokesman Tim Hadac.

The World Health Organization declared swine flu a pandemic last week. As of Wednesday, it said that more than 39,000 cases had been reported worldwide, with 167 deaths.
