Federal regulators said a glaucoma drug from Allergan appears to enhance eyelashes by making them longer and fuller, prompting experts to soon assess the safety of that use.
Allergan, the same folks who gave us Botox, wants the Food and Drug Administration to give the green light to its bimatoprost formula for sale as an eyelash enhancer.
The drug is already being sold to glaucoma sufferers under the name Lumigan. The Irvine, Calif.-based company hopes to start selling it as a beauty aid under the name Latisse.
Allergan measured Latisse's effect using a four point scale, ranging from "minimal" eyelash prominence to "very marked" prominence. The drug is applied once daily to the base of the eyelashes.
