Actor Dennis Quaid will speak about his work promoting patient safety at a healthcare conference that opens in Chicago on Sunday.

Quaid will speak about the foundation he and his wife, Kimberly, created at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's annual conference.

The couple started the Quaid Foundation to raise awareness about medical errors after a California hospital gave their newborn twins an overdose of blood thinner in 2007.

The conference exhibition includes the latest high-tech products from more than 800 companies and organizations, and mock healthcare settings demonstrate how some of these products can help reduce healthcare costs and medical errors.

The conference runs through Wednesday, when former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan will speak. He's expected to talk about the current economic environment and healthcare system.
