It plays like a TV drama. It's so bizarre that it's hard to believe it's all true. But, above all, late-night comedians found the arrest of and charges against Gov. Rod Blagojevich to be ample fodder for humor.
Stephen Colbert offered his take on the news from "The Land of Stinkin'," saying, "Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is arrested on corruption charges. It's gonna take a huge bribe to get him out of this one."
David Letterman took certain pleasure in his term "Blagojeviching."
"It's one count of bribery, one count of fraud and one count of Blagojeviching," he said during his opening monologue.
Noting the number of bleeped-out words used by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald in Tuesday's news conference, Jon Stewart said, "Holy eff-in bleep. Is this guy a governor or Lil Wayne?" Watch the Comedy Channel's clip here.
Perhaps it's too soon, but as of Wednesday, political leaders in Illinois weren't laughing.
