• Sandra Lewis Wednesday, Dec 10 at 7:34 PM FLAG COMMENT Maybe what they should also take a look at for "good material" are the actions of two Illinois agencies: The Illinois Department of Revenue and the Illinois Tollway Authority. "Blago" as the term is emulsifying, had nothing to do with the statutes that the Tollway Authority has stretched out of shape and the decision by the IDR to hire a private sector law firm to collect unpaid taxes owed by Illinois residents that is imposing unusual fees/costs in so doing. I am sure our Kings of Laughter can pull some p-r-e-t-t-y good lines out of each of these situations. That's "situation comedy", right? The State legislature is responsible for reviewing, writing and sculpting statutes. The IDR is responsible for collecting taxes and not handing the job over to a private sector law firm which, in effect, gives them disclosure about the finances, lives and practices of taxpayers who owe. That is unfair disclosure. The Illinois Tollway wants to bill "violators" for going through tollway gates without paying months and months after the alleged violation has occurred. That's right. 'Why bill 'em for $2.00 right now when we can wait for 6 months to a year and bill 'em for $60. If they ignore us, then we have the right to bill them $200 because the statutes that govern our agency say so!' (This is a true story.)
