Big-Time Breeders Welcome 18th Kid

And baby makes 18 kids. Whoa.

The (in)famous Duggar family of Arkansas announced the birth of their 18th child on the Today Show Monday morning, a girl named Jordyn-Grace Makiya.

The family is the subject of a reality show on TLC, 17 Kids and Counting, which will obviously have to be re-named. We're thinking 18 is Way, Way, Way More than Enough.

The newest Duggar was born by caesarean section last Thursday morning and weighed in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces.

Note that the Duggars are the kind of parents whose kids' names all start with the same letter -- which is taken to a whole new level by the sheer number of them.

Here's the spread on the Duggar kids: Joshua, 20; Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 17; Jessa, 16; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 12; Joy-Anna, 11; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 8; James, 7; Justin, 6; Jackson, 4; Johannah, 3; Jennifer, 1, and Jordyn-Grace Makiya, 5 days.

If you do the math, that's just over 1 child a year for 20 years.

News that the family has grown to the size of an Australian Football team met with mixed reaction on the blogs. Gawker called the family crazy and pointed out that their show "ruins TLC's otherwise feel-good family block of the remarkable Little People, Big World and the cloying but cute Jon & Kate Plus 8."

Babblebaby used the opportunity to point out the Duggar parents subscribe to a little-talked-about Protestant movement called "quiverfull."  Quiverfull Christians basically believe that children are a blessing from God, and any kind of birth control would be a rejection of God's blessing.   So any time hubby feels randy, there's a good chance the family will have a new addition in nine months.

When asked on Today if they're considering more children, patriarch Jim Bob Duggar replied, "We both would love to have more."

What do you think? Are the Duggars just another all-American family ... or do you worry their kids going to spend the rest of their lives telling a therapist what a messed-up childhood they had?
