The tree that will adorn Chicago's Daley Plaza for the 2012 holiday season came down Thursday from in front of a home in Prospect Heights, where it stood for more than 60 years.
The Theiszmann family donating this year's tree: a 64-foot Colorado Spruce.
"It was a very appreciated tree there. We decorated it in the beginning when we were here but then it got too large," Barbara Theiszmann said as she watched crews take down the tree.
Theiszmann and other family members will join Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday, Nov. 20 for the annual tree-lighting celebration.
"We're looking forward to see it downtown, how it looks. It looked beautiful here. I don't know how it's going to look down there. It looked tall over here, and down there it's going to look short with all the tall buildings," she said.
Mary Slowik, a spokeswoman for the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, said there were more than 20 submissions this year. To be considered, the tree had to be a spruce or fir at least 55 feet tall.
