Empire Buys Competitor With Equally Catchy Jingle

Two Chicago area-carpet companies with really catchy commercial jingles may be coming under one ownership umbrella will continue to operate and advertise separately.

Empire Carpet -- with the 588-2300 EMPIRE jingle -- late last month purchased Luna Carpet -- with the 773-202-LUNA jingle -- it was revealed Monday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"There will be no organizational changes, no layoffs, no changes to the jingles and no changes to the consumer," an Empire spokeswoman told Crain's Chicago Business.

Empire, based in Northlake, operates in more than 45 cities around the country. The purchase gives it access to Bellwood-based Luna's five showroom locations in the Chicago area.

Elmer Lynn Hauldren, better known as the Empire Carpet Man, died last May at the age of 89.
