Court-Appointed Receiver Takes Control of Block 37

The court-appointed receiver named two months ago for Block 37 finally took control of the beleagured project Friday.

Joseph Freed & Associates had tried to postpone the handover with an appeal, but Cook County Circuit Judge Margaret Brennan ordered the transfer to take place, Crain's Chicago Business reported.

Bank of America filed a foreclosure suit against Freed in October, saying it had lost confidence in the developer and had doubts the project would be completed.

The mall at State and Randolph streets opened in November. One of its biggest stores, Anthropologie, opened Friday.
