A south suburban restaurant owner is under arrest, accused of selling marijuana out of his burger joint.

It gives a whole new meaning to the term "burger joint."

Police in Chicago Heights have arrested and charged the owner of Spanky's Grill for selling marijuana out of his fast-food restaurant, located adjacent to a gas station at 322 W. 14th St. in that town.

The SouthtownStar newspaper reported that Brandon Johnson, 33, of University Park, was arrested Monday after police found about three pounds of marijuana, $7,000 in cash, a loaded handgun and drug-packaging paraphernalia inside his restaurant's office.

Police Lt. David Basile told Southtown reporter Becky Schlikerman that Johnson is considered to be a mid-level dealer and it is thought that he had been selling drugs out of Spanky's for the past year.

When police executed a search warrant of Johnson's car and restaurant, they also found two ounces of marijuana inside the car, Basile said.

Basile said police had been investigating Johnson, who owns multiple restaurants, for a year, and that his arrest was not the first time investigators found drugs being sold out of a legitimate business.
