Major Renovation Planned for Woodfield Mall

The mall currently features nearly 300 stores and restaurants, according to its website

Woodfield Mall is expected to undergo a major renovation this year.

According to reports, the suburban shopping center has applied for a construction permit for the project, which is estimated to cost at least $13.8 million.

The Chicago Tribune reports details surrounding the renovations aren’t being released yet, but the plans will be unveiled at a private breakfast on Jan. 20.

The intended upgrade is slotted to take place in 2015, but likely won’t include an addition or amusement park-type amenities, the Tribune reported.

The mall currently features nearly 300 stores and restaurants, according to its website.

The mall’s last renovation was reportedly 20 years ago, when 50 stores were added, including a three-story Nordstrom.

Last month, officials announced plans to add a Pac-Man inspired restaurant.
