A small plane has crashed in Kane County Sunday afternoon, killing the pilot, according to authorities.

The plane went down near the Olsen Airport on Kendall Road, west of Elgin.  Kane County Sheriff's Deputies are at the scene, spokesman Patrick Gengler said.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford confirmed one person is dead. The single-engine experimental craft crashed under unknown circumstances just before 2 p.m., he said.

The FAA is investigating.
