They call him the “Scarecrow Bandit” and he’s a wanted man.

The FBI released an alert for the bank robber who has been terrorizing the suburbs. The crook garnered the Batman-themed moniker because he sports a floppy hat, smears mud on his face and carries a sawed-off broom handle that he uses to threaten bank tellers.

So far the “Scarecrow Bandit” has hit banks in Hanover Park and Hoffman Estates.

During an escape from the First Eagle Bank at 1040 E. Lake St. in Hanover Park, the robber demanded that the teller fork over the keys to her car. She found the ride abandoned a few blocks away.

The thief is described as a white male between the ages of 40 and 45 years old, 6 feet tall and about 250 lbs, the FBI said.
