Video: Deadly Collision at Pre-Derby Workout
As Derby contenders were on the track prepping for the weekend's race, a 3-year-old filly ran full speed into a 2-year old horse standing nearby. The younger horse was euthanized after the collision.
A 2-year-old filly was euthanized at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky Monday morning after a violent collision with another horse.
Running without a jockey you see "Dr. Rap, " a 3-year-old colt, slam into "Raspberry Miss."
With multiple fractures, veterinarians say they had no other option than to euthanize Rasberry Miss. Vets say Dr. Rap may fully recover.
During an event called, 'Dawn at the Downs,' Dr. Rap had thrown her jockey before taking off down the track and slamming into the haunches of Raspberry Miss.
The entangled horses lay on the ground for some time before the ambulances arrived for the horses.
The jockey riding Raspberry Miss at the time of the collision was not seriously hurt.
Neither horse was a Kentucky Derby hopeful, but several were on the track at the time.
