A St. Louis-area police officer may be responsible for a crash that killed four people, including three Eastern Illinois University students.

Officer Christine Miller was going the wrong way Saturday on a road in Des Peres, Mo., when she slammed into a car carrying five people, police said.

Miller, 41, was listed in critical condition Tuesday.  The driver of the other car, Nitesh Adusumill, was in serious condition, but STLToday.com reported his condition was improving.

Three of the victims were grad students at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. They were identified as Anusha Anumolu, 23; Anita Lakshmi, 23; and Prya Muppvarapu, 22.

The fourth victim was Satya Chinta, 25, of Aurora.

Police suspect Miller was drinking before the crash.

A decision on whether Miller will be charged may be three to six weeks away, police told the Associated Press.
