An explosion this morning completely destroyed a house in the 400 block of Holden in Romeoville, and so far, one serious burn injury has been reported.
Firefighters responded to the call around 10:15 a.m.
"I just heard a loud noise and felt the ground shake and got up and looked out my back window and I saw the house behind me in flames," neighbor Ashley Zizich said. "The woman was in her yard and just yelling for help and walking around, screaming and screaming."
Sky5 was over the scene as firefighters poured water on the smoking remains of the house. The explosion and fire also severely damaged a neighboring house.
A construction crew working replacing curbs and sidewalks may have been involved with the explosion, according to Mike Deangelis, with Globe Concrete.
"He pulled up a curb and right under the curb was a gas line that came up with the piece of curb," Deangelis said. "It wasn't very deep at all, it was exposed under the concrete curb."
"Once he pulled it up, you could hear it leaking. So I pulled my truck away," he said. "I left the scene, and once I got to the dump I saw a large plume of smoke, and when I got back here, I realized two of the houses blew up."
The official cause of the blast is still under investigation. Investigators and gas crews remained at the scene Wednesday evening.
