Two people were transported by ambulance from a downtown scaffolding collapse Monday morning, both in serious to critical condition.

Firefighters worked feverishly to rescue construction workers -- one of whom who was hanging from the scaffolding -- after the collapse in the River North neighborhood.
Michael Fox, chief of Special Operations for the Chicago Fire Department, said more than 50 firefighters worked to save the two men, one of whom was pinned against the building, and a second who managed to climb on top of the building, the Chicago Tribune reported.
An NBC Chicago crew at the scene said a beam was pinning the dangling man's arm.
Emergency crews responded to the 300 block of West Ohio Street about 10:50 a.m. after something apparently broke causing the scaffolding to collapse, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.
Three ambulances initially responded to the scene.
