A Chicago employer is taking the car keys away from employees to save money.
Chicago Transit Authority President Richard Rodriguez is putting an end to the program that allowed CTA employees to take home free company cars.
Today's Sun-Times reports that of the 68 employees who had the perk, over half make more than $100,000 a year and that maintenance and fuel for all 769 "non-revenue" CTA vehicles -- which include the take-home cars -- cost the agency more than $4 million in 2008.
The employees will now have the option of leasing a car through the CTA, but it'll be on their dime.
