Despite a nearby police camera malfunctioning, a suspect is under arrest in connection with the assault-rifle slayings of three teenagers, Mayor Richard Daley said Tuesday.

The mayor spoke about the arrest at a late morning news conference.  He said the police camera was checked in November and found to be malfunctioning.

The three boys, ages 13, 15 and 17, were gunned down Friday by an assault rifle at the corner of 87th and Exchange, Police Supt. Jody Weis said.

Police have not released the suspect's name.
