Helicopter wreckage lies next to the road after a medical helicopter clipped a radio tower guide wire and crashed, killing four people in Aurora, Illinois on October 16, 2008. The helicopter was headed for Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago from Valley West Hospital in Sandwich when it went down minutes before midnight.
From the Bolingbrook Sun: Citing "recent and ongoing events," Air Angels, an air and ground ambulance service based at Bolingbrook Clow International Airport, ceased operations Feb. 19.
Thirty-three workers of Air Angels have received notice their employment is ending in 60 days.
The company is going out of business following an Oct. 2008 crash that killed four people.
Children's Memorial Hospital, where the helicopter was heading when it crashed, issued a statement about Air Angels' closure:
"We suspended services from Air Angels last October and have not used the service since that time. This change did not have any adverse impact on the accessibility of children in need of our care.
"Having a heliport is an essential part of our ability to fulfill our mission of caring for the region's children. Our heliport receives critically ill and injured children who cannot be transported by ground transportation without threat to the life or condition of the patient -- and for organ transplantation that is time-critical."
