CTA Train Tracker Debuts

Traveling around Chicago will become "more pleasant"

The Chicago Transit Authority 'Train Tracker' is officially here!

Mayor Richard M. Daley and CTA officials announced Saturday morning that the CTA Train Tracker is now available.

Customers who want to receive estimated arrival times for the next train can now go to www.transitchicago.com and follow the link to the CTA Train Tracker site.  The Train Tracker is available for all 144 rail stations across CTA's eight rail lines.

The Web site prompts you to select which rail line you are traveling on and at which station you will board the train.  Arrival times of approaching trains are provided within a 15-minute time frame for the selected station.  The results will refresh every 20-30 seconds.

You can customize how you view the train arrival predictions by selecting the number of results displayed and how they are sorted.  If the station is served by multiple rail lines, you can sort it by platform or route, or by the next arriving train.

The Train Tracker also notifies customers if there are any planned events affecting rail service.

"The innovative use of this technology will improve CTA reliability and make traveling around Chicago more pleasant and convenient for our residents," Daley said.

Estimated arrival times are generated through a combination of scheduling information and data systems used to signal when a train occupies a portion of a track, according to the CTA.

"Although money is tight right now and our budget is lean, we are continuing to find new ways to carry out plans and ideas aimed at improving our system and the customer experience," CTA President Richard Rodriguez said.

Adjustments may be made to the Train Tracker to improve its appearance, functionality and accuracy, according to CTA officials.
