Nothing like a little motivation to do something good for someone else.
All this month, Heartland Blood Centers is giving away five $100 gas card to a blood donor at one of its centers.
It's National Blood Donor Month and in-house recruitment director Amy Smith says it's a way to reward donors during a usually slow month.
"Historically, we struggle with collections in January, because the vacation time, the inclement weather and [cold and flu season] prohibit the amount of collections we normally bring in," Smith told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Donors must be 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and can't have a cold or the flu.
