America and Europe's best golfers continue to battle for a spot on the Ryder Cup team.
The battle continued during the Travelers Championship tourney at TCP River Highlands. Bubba Watson returned to the No. 1 spot, beating out Jason Dunfer by just 37.141 points.
Watson has collected 5,326.395 points and has secured his position above Dunfer, who did not compete in the Travelers Championship and remained at 5,289.254. Dunfer surrendered his first-place ranking.
With scores well above the other golfers, the competition seems to be a tug of war for Watson and Dunfer so far, but the British Opens could bring in a new spotlight.
The U.S. Ryder Cup Team will announce its eight-player roster August 12, based on the top-ranking golfers. Rankings are determined by prize money collected in major championships and the PGA Championship. Golfers receive points for every $1,000 earned in those competitions.
The remaining five slots are currently secured by Webb Simpson at 4,457.990, Phil Mickelson at 4,107.108, Matt Kuchar at 4,043.426, Hunter Mahan at 3,669.370, Tiger Woods at 3,499.413 and Zach Johnson at 3,325.858.
