Dunkin' on Your Doorstep? Dunkin' Donuts to Test Delivery

Dunkin' Donuts may soon be on your doorstep.

The doughnut giant is testing delivery service, taking a page from rivals like Starbucks, McDonald's and Chipotle, all of which plan to test on-demand food delivery.

"Delivery is clearly a big opportunity," Dunkin's CEO Nigel Travis told CNBC's "On the Money" in an interview.

"The trend in this country is convenience. So I think delivery plays very strongly," Travis said. "I think the next few years you're going to see us get more and more into delivery."

Travis said the majority of his company’s sales, “about 60 percent,” comes from drinks like coffee and smoothies. But "donuts are still a significant part of our menu and growing. In fact, they've grown 17 consecutive quarters."

The move comes after Dunkin's parent company posted lackluster sales last year, amid stiff competition in the breakfast market and a struggling consumer economy.
