Shaq and Shaunie Score Reality Show

Forget Orange County, NBA housewives have drama too

As if there aren’t enough versions of the “Real Housewives of Orange County” out there already, VH1 plans to put a new spin on mindless reality soaps with the upcoming series, “Basketball Wives.”

The series, which will premiere March 15, will star ex-Laker Shaquille O’Neal and his sometimes wife, Shaunie. We say sometimes since the couple has filed for divorce twice already.

Let the drama commence.

But it won’t just be eight half-hour episodes of Big Daddy and his wife buying bling and riding in limos. According to Reuters, other NBA players and their wives of girlfriends will also be on the show, including Eric Williams, Antoine Walker, Jermaine O’Neal and Udonis Haslem.

“This series will show viewers not only the glamorous side of being a celebrity wife but also the challenges and hard work that go with it,” said Jeff Olde, executive vice president of programming at VH1.

Would being a reality show executive producer count as glamour or a challenge? Either way, Shaunie snagged an executive producer credit for the show, along with Shed Media.

“Behind every NBA star is a strong, exceptional woman, one who must deal with the unique challenges of being married to the game as well as the player,” said Shaunie, mother of six.

Hopefully Shaunie can get audiences to be just as committed to her show. If you want our advidce, Shaunie, get Kobe on that show too. We all know that the Shaq-Kobe feud can be rekindled for ratings.
