Note to journalists: If you ever ask Scarlett Johansson a question about her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, just make sure that it’s nothing too personal if you want to avoid an awkward situation.

That’s what happened on last night’s “Saturday Night Live,” in which Johansson was the guest host. During a skit in which the actress appeared as herself  on the TV program Hollywood Dish, Johansson was subjected to a bizarre interview by the show’s hosts (portrayed by Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader) in which the questions covered Woody Allen, “Jersey Shore” and a reference to a part of Reynolds’ anatomy.

Johansson’s other roles in last night’s sketches included: an impersonation of Patti Stanger, the host of “The Millionaire Matchmaker”; a guest on “The Manuel Ortiz” talk show who tells her husband (Andy Samberg) that he might not the father of their baby; and the Rosario Dawson character in a parody trailer of the new film Unstoppable, starring Denzel Washington (Jay Pharaoh); and a pitchwoman for Mike’s Busteria that sells ceramic busts.

On a skit for “TLC Stars of Tomorrow,” Johansson played Amanda, a child actress who lines from the movies “On the Waterfront” and “The Color Purple.” (See video below).

The actress also showed her singing skills in her monologue when she sang a tune and was joined by Dina Lohan (Wiig) and Kesha (Abby Elliott).

Other notable moments from the show included a sketch on TV cooking host Paula Deen’s new product, Big Ol Soakems, which thick paper towels that can absorb fat; and a lineup of new pregnant/baby-themed programs on MTV such as “I’m Snooki and Pregnant” and “My Super Sweet 16 and Pregnant.”

The SNL Digital Short was “What Was That?” in which a band of young people performed a rock-rap number in front of the UN General Assembly highlighting the horrors of world history. Among the lyrics sung by Samberg included “Terrorism—what is that all about?” and “The Inquisition—what was that?”

Guests on Weekend Update included a reconciled George W. Bush (Jason Sudeikis) and Kanye West (Pharaoh) and a couple who were on the ill-fated Carnival Cruise ship.

Arcade Fire was the evening’s musical guest and delivered some spirited performances. The band even appeared on the aforementioned Digital Short.

Next week’s guests on "SNL" will be host Anne Hathaway and musical act Florence and the Machine.
