Pot Topic: Zach Galifianakis' On-Air Joint Has Speculation Buzzing

Bill Maher says it was fake pot

It's fast becoming the Zapruder film of possible televised pot smoking.

Zach Galifianakis appeared to light a joint, smoke it and pass it to his fellow guests during a discussion of California's marijuana-legalizing Prop 19 on the Oct. 29 episode of "Real Time With Bill Maher."

On the live broadcast, conservative talk show host Margaret Hoover seemed to think it was real weed, sniffing the spliff before declining a puff.

"Sure smelled like the real thing ..." Hoover later tweeted.

Certain obsessive websites have analyzed the show's footage and determined that Galifianakis did indeed spark a real doobie (although, in fairness, some of the reasons given for the assessment include the fact that the man in question is a comedian and has a beard).

Bill Maher, however, went into CNN's "Situation Room" and told Wolf Blitzer it wasn't actually weed.

"If it was a real joint, Wolf, I would have smoked it," Maher, a vocal marijuana advocate said. "I think it was cloves or something. Zach's crazy, [but] he's not that crazy."

So did he or didn't he?

So far the zaftig comedian hasn't publicly said one way or the other. Perhaps it's high time he did?
