Justin Bieber—aka “Shawty Mane”—Tweets Rap Video

Teen heartthrob tries his hand at dropping beats

It’s not uncommon for those in the public eye to make a career change. Models turn to acting, reality stars turn to clothing design, perfume-making, and the art of staying off the nightly news. But who would have thought that Justin BieberJustin Bieber—would make the transition so young from teen heartthrob to rapper?

The sixteen-year-old crooner released his first "rap" video, “Speaking in Tongues” via Twitter Thursday, hanging up his signature dreamy doo-wop and catchy pop riffs to try his hand at rhyme dropping.

“Who knew i could rap lol,” Bieber bragged on his Twitter page. “My alter ego rap name is Shawty Mane.. hah.”

The 1:39 video has already gotten over 370,000 hits on Twitvid, Twitter's video site.

In the video, Bieber dons a red hoodie and a puffy black vest in studio. The only difference, it seems, between Justin Bieber and alter-ego Shawty Mane seems to be a pair of thick-rimmed black glasses somewhere between Grace Kelly and “30 Rock’s” Frank's (Judah Friedlander) spectacles.

Bieber raps “Stop drop and roll, Justin Bieber is on fire, it’s time to realize, it’s time to call me Young Sire!” No doubt.

Shawty Mane's already “tired of the fame” we find out.  Looks like he’ll fit right in with the ranks of Eminem, members of The Beastie Boys, and Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg.
