“Hangover 2” Parties On to the Tune of $86.4M

Here’s hoping the cast and crew of “The Hangover Part II” can remember this weekend, mostly, because it fueled one of the top-grossing Memorial Day weekends in history.

“Kung Fu Panda 2” added another $48 million to the mix, and the fourth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean” brought in the booty with a staggering $39 million.

Not a bad weekend for sequels, overall.

There was a lot of movie going for the Cannes set, as well.

Terrence Malick’s “Tree of Life” brought in $352,320 for the weekend proper in New York and Los Angeles. The film grossed approximately $88,000 for each location, a record for a Fox Searchlight Picture, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Likewise, Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris,” which debuted last weekend with limited release, grossed $1.9 million as it upsized to 58 more theaters across the country.

And, lest we forget, “Bridesmaids” is still raking in viewers—the comedy staring Kirsten Wiig is expected to earn at least $4 million on Memorial Day, totaling the film’s earnings to an impressive $89.4 million.

That’s a lot of bridesmaids’ dresses.
