Comedian and talk show host Steve Harvey waded into serious waters Wednesday on his Twitter as he defended Colin Kaepernick and other athletes right to protest by kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem.
In one of his tweets Harvey says "free to go to the store and buy Skittles?" referencing the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman.
Harvey received both support and some push back on Twitter for his position. One poster tweeted "You're here in Chicago. Where's the outrage for the YTD 3K shooting victims or the 500 murdered? Focus on the real issues."
Harvey responded he'd dedicated entire shows to gun violence.
The talk show host isn't the first celebrity to voice an opinion on the National Anthem kneel. Earlier this week model Kate Upton slammed members of the Miami Dolphins for kneeling during the anthem on the 9/11 15th anniversary, calling their actions a disgrace.
