It was a tough night for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, who was challenged on his opposition to same-sex marriage by “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert.
Cruz was booed by a few audience members when he said he said the Constitution reserves the question of marriage to the states. Colbert challenged him, saying the Constitution doesn’t say anything about marriage.
"The 10th Amendment states that if the Constitution doesn't mention it, it's a question for the states," said Cruz. "I don't think we should entrust governing our society to five unelected lawyers in Washington."
Cruz did receive some applause, when he said issues should be taken to the ballot box and voted on by the public.
