Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis Sent to Hospital, KROQ Appearance Canceled

The iconic Southern California band formed in LA in 1983 with Kiedis at the helm

UPDATE May 15, 2016: This story was updated Sunday to reflect the band's announcement that it would not perform at an upcoming concert in Southern California.

Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers was taken to the hospital forcing the band to cancel its set in KROQ's Weenie Roast show in Irvine, California, officials from the venue confirmed Saturday night.

Miranda Galindo of the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre confirmed the band's set was canceled and the lead singer was hospitalized.

The band later announced via its site that Kiedis was hospitalized due to complications with the intestinal flu.

The iconic Southern California band, behind such hits as "Under the Bridge," "Californication," and many others, formed in LA in 1983 with Kiedis at the helm.

The band was set to perform from 10 to 11 p.m. as apart of KROQ's show, which has a 20-year history in Southern California.

The show's lineup also included rock groups like Weezer, Cold War Kids, Garbage, Panic! At The Disco, and more.

KROQ confirmed that the band had to bow out from the show via Twitter.

The band addressed the crowd at the show, confirming the performance was canceled.

"Anthony is on his way to the hospital right now, and we're unable to play this evening," Michael Peter Balzary, better known as the band's bassist Flea, said.

The band announced Sunday after the hospitalization that the Red Hot Chili Peppers would not be able to perform at the iHeart Radio show in Burbank on May 17.

"They would like to extend their gratitude to the fans for the outpouring of well wishes. Anthony is expected to make a full recovery soon," the site read.
