Popular R&B '80s Singer Colonel Abrams Dead at 67

Abrams shot to stardom on the New York underground scene thanks to radio and club play in the mid '80s.

R&B and House singer Colonel Abrams, who shot to stardom in the mid '80s behind hits "Trapped" and "I’m Not Gonna Let You" died on Thanksgiving, it was reported by BBC News.

Although an exact cause of death was not revealed, Abrams had been in ill health in recent months. A crowd-funding campaign had been started in 2015 when it was reported Abrams was homeless and in failing health.

Born in Detroit, Abrams became popular on the New York underground scene thanks to radio and club play. He had his first major hit in 1984 with "Music Is the Answer" on the independent label Streetwise. Other hits in the mid 1980s included "Leave the Message Behind the Door," "The Truth" and "Speculation."
