Adam Levine Named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive

Maroon 5 lead singer and "The Voice" coach Adam Levine was named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive on Tuesday night.

The announcement will no doubt provide Levine's fellow "Voice" mentor Blake Shelton with plenty of ammunition for friendly ribbing over the coming weeks on the hit reality singing competition. The reveal happened during the show's Tuesday broadcast, when host Carson Daly informed him of the big news.

Levine's reaction?

"I feel sexy," he said from his big red coaching chair.

Levine had been asked about the rumors he would be named Sexiest on Friday's "Today" show but had played coy, initially telling host Savannah Guthrie he didn't believe her when she raised the subject that had the Internet abuzz. "I know nothing," was all the "Moves Like Jagger" singer would say.

It's not the first time he has been featured in the annual celebration of men in pop culture, but it's Levine's first appointment to the top spot. He follows last year's honoree Channing Tatum.

Along with Tatum, Levine – who was born in Los Angeles and recently got engaged to Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo – joins a list of recipients that includes Bradley Cooper (2011), Hugh Jackman (2008), George Clooney (2006), Johnny Depp (2001), Harrison Ford (2008), Denzel Washington (1996), Brad Pitt (1995), Sean Connery (1989) and Mel Gibson (1985).

Levine, 34, has been awarded three Grammy Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and two American Music Awards. Maroon 5 has released four studio albums, all of which reached platinum status in the U.S., and the group has sold more than 27 million albums worldwide.

Though busy with his Maroon 5 work and "Voice" duties (his charge Javier Colon won Season 1), Levine has also found the time to act (he's had roles in "American Horror Story" and "Can a Song Save Your Life?"), release a fashion collection for Kmart and create eponymous fragrances for men and women.

For his fashion line, Levine – who is a yoga devotee and never shy when it comes to exposing his tattooed and muscled physique – takes inspiration from his own wardrobe (think tailored rocker) and says of the collection, "I'm not making a pretentious fashion statement, but you have to put something on, and I'm not wearing a fig leaf."

Fans of the latest Sexiest Man Alive need not fear he will stay covered up, though. "I spend most of my life naked. In fact, I often have to be told by the people around me that it's inappropriate to be as naked as I am," he told Cosmopolitan (UK) in 2011. "But I live in California, where it's always warm, so why not?"
