Kaley Cuoco Apologizes After Fourth of July Photo of Her Dogs Causes Backlash

"This is no way reflects my feelings toward what the American flag represents," she wrote

Kaley Cuoco has apologized after facing a backlash for sharing a Fourth of July photo of her dogs sitting on top of an American flag.

"The Big Bang Theory" actress meant to play off of the holiday spirit for Independence Day, but the Internet did not share the same sentiment. Followers quickly lambasted the star.

"That's not a towel," one critic commented.

Cuoco subsequently deleted the photo and penned a lengthy public apology late Tuesday. "I would like to comment on a photo I posted yesterday, that has caused lots of controversy," she began on Instagram. "First off, please know, I have the utmost respect for my country. I am a proud American in every sense of the word. I understand the American flag stands for our freedom and represents American heroes, past and present."

"Yesterday I made a mistake by posting the picture that was taken of my sweet dogs posing on an American flag," she continued on social media. "I sincerely apologize to anyone that has been offended by my previous post. This is no way reflects my feelings toward what the American flag represents."

The actress, who has been working in Hollywood for over two decades, admitted living under a public microscope can illuminate her faults.

"Living in the public eye, can be extremely difficult at times. Every mistake and every imperfection is amplified. I am not perfect," she concluded. "I am a proud American, today, tomorrow, always."
