Jimmy Fallon to Host 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards

The 74th annual Golden Globe Awards is set to air Sunday, Jan. 8

Jimmy Fallon is set to host the 74th Annual Golden Globes next year.

The "Tonight Show" host announced on Twitter Tuesday that he's "so excited" to anchor the three-hour ceremony.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt called Fallon an "exceptionally talented and dynamic entertainer" whose charm, wit and incredible spontaneity will play exceedingly well both to everyone at the show as well as the millions watching at home from around the world."

"This is the most spontaneous and uninhibited award show on television, and Jimmy’s playful, disarming comedic brilliance makes him the ideal host to enhance and elevate the sense of fun and irreverence that’s made the Golden Globes one of the premier events of the entire broadcast year,” Greenblatt said in a statement.

The show is set to air Jan. 8 on NBC live from the Beverly Hilton.

Fallon takes over from last year's host, Ricky Gervais, whose biting style of humor brought groans as well as laughs.

This is Fallon's first time hosting the Golden Globe Awards, though he has presented awards at the annual show, most recently in 2014 when, together with Melissa McCarthy he presented the Golden Globe for best performance by an actor in a limited series or motion picture made for television to Michael Douglas.

Fallon’s brand of comedy will continue the tradition of cutting-edge excitement viewers have come to expect from the host of the Golden Globes," said Allen Shapiro, CEO of Dick Clark Productions.
