Ellie Kemper Announces Pregnancy on ‘Tonight Show'

Kemper's pregnancy didn't affect production of Netflix's "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"

Ellie Kemper announced some big news Thursday: "I'm pregnant!"

The "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" actress revealed she's expecting on NBC's "The Tonight Show."

"Hi, baby! Hi! I can't wait until you see the show. Your mommy's very funny and very talented," host Jimmy Fallon said while getting close to her baby bump.

Kemper, 35, told the late-night host, "In fact, you're the first one to bless him or her. And now I reveal it's actually just a disco ball."

Fallon then gave her a pint of Tonight Dough Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

"Anyone who knows me, I love Ben & Jerry's — I'm not just saying this because it's your show — Tonight Dough is my favorite flavor. I've been having a pint every other night," the mom-to-be confessed. "I will probably fall asleep while I eat this because it's like a Pavlovian response, cause I fall asleep eating it at night."

According to Fallon, "Every baby turns out to be a genius if you eat [Tonight Dough] while you're pregnant. We haven't proved that yet, but I think so."

Kemper agreed and jokingly said, "We're going to in a few months."

NEWS: What would happen if Kimmy Schmidt met Kimmy Gibbler?

Kemper's pregnancy didn't affect production of Netflix's "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" until the very end of its second season.

"We had a table read and I saw that my character was supposed to be on a roller coaster — actually, the Rip Ride Rockit, which you have been on," she said, referring to the Universal Studios Florida attraction that Fallon once rode for a viral "Tonight Show" segment with Kevin Hart. "You rode it and you were a little scared. You swallowed a bug."

Understandably, the prospect of zooming around at 65 mph didn't sit well with Kemper.

"I was Googling 'pregnant women on roller coasters.' Some women do. Some real thrill seekers. It was still very early on, but I felt like a pregnant lady on a roller coaster is not ideal," she explained. "So, I had to tell my boss, [show co-creator] Tina Fey. Maybe you've heard of her. She knows every secret. I told her before I told my mom. You can trust her and you cannot trust my mom."

"Because it was still so early on, we decided I would just tell people I have a back injury and that's why I can't ride the roller coaster. Makes sense. I could not act like I had a back injury. I'm an actress, presumably. Someone said, 'Oh, what's wrong?' And words escaped me. 'I sprained my spine.' You can't do that! I'm a bad liar," said Kemper, who is expecting her first child with husband Michael Koman.

"I kept forgetting I had one, so I kept doing things someone with a back injury can't do. Like, they'd yell 'lunch' and I'd leap up and cartwheel to catering. You're not supposed to do that," she said. "At the wrap party, I completely forgot. You saw me dance! I was dancing and my friend Ali came up and she was like, 'How's your back?' and I was like, 'It's OK. The doctor said dancing could be good.' It was terrible. I think everyone could see right through it."
