Disney, Marvel Studios Oppose Georgia Religious Liberty Bill

The bill would protect people's "sincerely held" religious beliefs

The Walt Disney Co. and Marvel Studios say they will stop filming in Georgia if a “religious liberty” bill pending before the governor becomes law, NBC News reports.

The companies said they will take their business elsewhere “should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law,” according to a Disney spokesman.

Georgia legislators passed the bill last week. It protects religious officials from having to perform same-sex marriages and would allow faith-based groups to deny services or employment to anyone that violates their “sincerely held" religious beliefs.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has not indicated whether he would sign or veto the bill.
