Comic-Con 2015: Thursday's Must-See Events

Thursday marks the first full day of events at Comic-Con International.

The annual gathering of pop culture geeks, gurus and fans will witness more than 130,000 people crowd the San Diego Convention Center as the big studios, comic book publishers and merchandise producers showcase their best, brightest and most desirable.

Each day we'll bring you the best stories, pictures and information straight from the convention floor. Plus we'll look ahead to what the must-see events and panels on a day-by-day basis.

What can you expect Thursday? William Shatner, a Peanuts celebration, the final bow from "The Hunger Games" cast, a "Miami Vice" retrospective, the latest from "Doctor Who," a revamped "Thunderbirds," and the world premiere of a new cartoon featuring Scooby Doo and KISS.

"The Autobiography of James T. Kirk"

William Shatner ("Star Trek: The Original Series") returns to the role that made him a pop culture icon. Shatner, as James T. Kirk, will read excerpts from "The Autobiography of James T. Kirk," a new memoir of the Enterprise captain by author David A. Goodman set for release in September. Goodman will be on hand to moderate. (10:45am - 11:45am Ballroom 20) 

Bring Your Cosplay Dreams to Life

Cosplaying 101: Bringing Your Dreams to Life will explain the basics in costuming and go over tips, tricks, and techniques to help a beginning costumer get started in the world of cosplaying. Moderated by Melissa Gene Meyer (Masquerade assistant with Comic-Con International). (11:00am - 12:00pm Room 14A)

Peanuts 65th Anniversary Panel

Come celebrate Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the gang's 65th birthday with moderator Douglas Wolk (Reading Comics) and Peanuts contributors Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise), and Art Baltazar (Tiny Titans), along with Lex Fajardo, managing editor for Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, and Cesar Gaellgos, archivist of the Schulz Museum. (11:00am - 12:00pm Room 5AB)

Street Fighter V Reveal

Moderator Francis Mao (Capcom) and a panel of Capcom's Street Fighter experts share the latest news on Street Fighter V, the new entry in one of the world's most popular fighting game franchises. Set for exclusive console release to the PS4 and on PC in 2016. Special guest Yoshinori Ono (executive producer, Street Fighter franchise) returns to SDCC for another special appearances. (11:45am - 12:45pm Room 6BCF)

“The Hunger Games” movie franchise comes to a thrilling conclusion with “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,” in theaters November 20.

"The Hunger Games" Takes a Final Bow

Lionsgate presents an exclusive first look at one of the studio's most highly anticipated films coming to theaters November 20. Get a sneak peek into the final chapter of the epic "Hunger Games" film franchise: "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2." Attendees will be shown exclusive, never-before-seen footage from the film with special guest appearances from the cast. Fingers crossed for a Jennifer Lawrence moment! (12:00pm - 1:15pm Hall H)

The Doctor Is In

Doctor Who: BBC America's Official Panel
Following his first season as the Doctor, actor Peter Capaldi will make his Comic-Con debut at BBC America's official "Doctor Who" panel. Capaldi will face fans alongside co-stars Jenna Coleman and Michelle Gomez, as well as lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat. Capaldi's first season delivered BBC America its highest rated season ever, so expect long lines in the waiting space. (2:15pm - 3:15pm Hall H)

Taking Stock of "Sherlock"

Steven Moffat (co-creator, executive producer, and writer), Sue Vertue (executive producer) and Rupert Graves (actor, DI Greg Lestrade) discuss the upcoming adventures of Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his ever-patient friend, Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman) in the cult series "Sherlock." "Thunderbirds Are Go": No Strings Attached

They're back and rebooted for the 21st century. ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures, in association with Weta Workshop are bringing the U.S. premier of "Thunderbirds Are Go" exclusively to Comic-Con. Watch an episode of the new series and find out how Weta re-imagined the much-loved classic series from the sixties. FAB! (4:30pm - 5:30pm Room 24ABC)

LGBTQ Geek Year in Review

The past year has been filled with key LGBTQ moments in comics, TV, movies, and animation which every queer geek should know about. Prism Comics and moderator P. Kristen Enos (Web of Lives) as they discuss the significance of these key events to the greater LGBTQ community with leading industry panelists. (6:00pm - 7:00pm Room 28DE)

Happy Birthday "Miami Vice"

Talent from the original smash hit NBC primetime series including Michael Talbott (Det. Stanley Switek), Olivia Brown (Det. Switek) and Edward James Olmos (Lt. Castillo) will be on hand to discuss the enduring legacy of the iconic series at the "Miami Vice" 30th Anniversary Retrospective panel. Iron those pastel-colored T-shirts in advance. (6:00pm - 7:00pm Room 29AB)

World Premiere of "Scooby-Doo! and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery!"

Starchild, Demon, Catman and Spaceman join Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma in a new animated musical adventure when the Mystery Machine heads to KISS World, an amusement park dedicated to the band, for a special Halloween concert headlined by the legendary rock group. Featuring six KISS songs alongside an original new song performed by the band written just for the film. After the world premiere screening Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer join further for a special panel moderated by director/actor/writer Kevin Smith (6:00pm - 8:00pm Hall H)

Flo Rida and All Time Low Rock Petco Park

Not on the official Comic-Con schedule but a major event on Thursday is MTV's Fandom Fest, a free party for anybody with a Comic-Con badge. The viewer voted award show, hosted by Tyler Posey ("Teen Wolf") and Bella Thorne ("Scream"), begins at 8 p.m. and features performances by Flo Rida and All Time Low, as well as guest appearances by Tyga, Lynide Greenwood ("Sleepy Hollow"), Dylan Bruce ("Orphan Black") and the King of Fandom himself – Orlando Jones. Gates open 7 p.m. and the event will be screened on Sunday, July 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
