"Full House" starlet Candace Cameron Bure revealed for the first time that she grappled with a serious eating disorder once the sitcom ended.
The actress, best known for her role as bubbly older sister DJ Tanner on the hit series, grew up under the glare of the TV cameras and said she began binging and purging after "Full House" ended in 1995 following her move to Canada with NHL-playing hubby Valeri Bure.
"It wasn't about losing weight," she told People. "It was all about emotions."
Now 34, the mother of three has detailed her harrowing journey in her new book "Reshaping It All," in which she describes living with bulimia.
"It's a very dangerous cycle that can just start to consume your life and really take over," she told People. "
In an interview with the magazine in 2007, the starlet said she never felt heavy on the "Full House" set but began feeling the weight of harsh criticisms about her appearance after filming wrapped. At the time of the interview, she weighed 110 lbs. after giving birth to three children.
"People come up to me and say, 'Weren't you the chubby one?'" she said. "At age 16, I was 132 lbs, which is not a lot, but when you're 5-foot-2 it shows."
Now she keeps fit by running after her three children: Natasha, 12, Lev, 10, and Maks, 8. A healthy diet philosophy and approach to eating in moderation has also helped her cope, she said.
