Actress Amy Locane, who starred on the TV series "Melrose Place" and later appeared in films including "Airheads" and "Crybaby" was driving drunk near Princeton, N.J., when she struck another car, killing a female passenger, police said.

Locane, who lives in central New Jersey with her husband and children, was driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe when she hit a 2010 Mercury Milan as it was turning into a driveway, court papers said.

Helene Seeman was pronounced dead the scene. Fred Seeman, who was driving, was flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was listed in critical condition, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.

Earlier Sunday evening, the 38-year-old actress had been involved in another accident in Princeton, from which she fled, according to local prosecutors.

After the fatal crash, the actress told cops she'd had several glasses of wine, according to court papers. She is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and third-degree assault by auto.

The actress, who was in tears Monday when she arrived at a court appearance, was arraigned and then released on $50,000 bail. She faces up to 10 years in state prison.

Locane, whose films have had her acting alongside Johnny Depp, Adam Sandler and Brendan Fraser, is best known for playing Sandy Harling on the 1990s TV series. She retired from acting several years ago and moved back to her native New Jersey, where she met her husband.

"I’ve learned it’s not about being famous and big money," she told People's Celebrity Baby Blog in 2007. "L.A. can be a fun place, but when it comes down to it — and this might sound hokey — there’s no place like home."
