Madonna and Guy Ritchie were granted a preliminary divorce in a British court.
Neither Madonna nor Guy Ritchie appeared in court today, but a British magistrate granted the separated couple a preliminary divorce eight years after their lavish wedding at a Scottish castle.
The 50-year-old Madonna is leaving the 40-year-old Ritchie in a fairly acrimonious split, accusing her former hubby of being emotionally abusive. Ritchie, the British director behind "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch," reportedly said that his wife was old, wrinkled, and couldn't sing.
She allegedly taunted him for being not masculine enough and would hit him.
Before and since the divorce, Madonna has been romantically linked to Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez in press reports. Madonna's expressed a desire to return to the U.S. after adopting Britain as her home. Ritchie plans to remain in Britain and attempt to resurrect a once-promising writer-director career that stalled around the time he cast his wife in the box office failure "Swept Away."
The pair have three children, one of whom is Ritchie's biological son.
