Lindsay Lohan Preps for Release from Rehab

It's safe to say party girl Lindsay Lohan and teetotaling philosopher Mahatma Gandhi have only one thing in common: They both spent time in the jail.

Now with her release from rehab less than 24 hours away, Lohan is drawing inspiration from the Indian peacemaker, who spent time in prison for civil disobedience.

“Today is the first day of the rest of my life ‘The future depends on what we do in the present.’ -Mahatma Gandhi... One step at a time....” Lohan tweeted Saturday evening.

The star is set to be released Monday from the Betty Ford Clinic, where two weeks ago she was accused of attacking a female staffer who asked Lohan to submit to a drug and alcohol test.

Such an un-Gandhi-like act could have landed the “Mean Girls” star in the slammer for up to six months, according to L.A. Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox, but her accuser dropped the charges on Christmas Eve.

The past few years have been a rollercoaster ride for the 24-year-old starlet.

Lohan had already spent time in a Hollywood-based rehab facility in 2007 before being arrested for two DUIs in the summer of that year.

The “Freaky Friday” star has been living at Betty Ford since October, after failing a drug test while on probation. The three-month stint is at least her fifth time in rehab.

Lohan will be tested randomly for drugs and alcohol following her release. She will also have to meet regularly with a psychiatrist.

The star’s father Michael Lohan has two gifts for his troubled daughter once she is out: new closets for the actress’s large wardobe and a song he commissioned by Delious Kennedy from the Grammy-winning soul group All-4-One.

"It's about a talented, beautiful young lady who grows in our hearts. She is badgered by paparazzi, cut down by the media ... She will wilt, but when she falls, I will always be there to pick her up and put her pedals back on," the loving father said.

The song, entitled “My Rose,” is meant as a response to Lohan's 2005 track “Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)” in which the starlet sings: “Daughter to father: I am broken, but I am hopin’.”
