“Dancing With the Stars” Double Elimination: Surprising Final 5 Move On

The night also featured performances from Ne-Yo, Kylie Minogue and the cast of Newsies

How can "Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars" be down to five already?!

Following performances from Kylie Minogue (everybody is still doing "The Locomotion"), Ne-Yo and the cast of Newsies, tonight saw two more celebs booted from the ballroom.

So, did Shawn Johnson get dinged for Derek Hough and Mark Ballas' unruly samba trio that was too tribal for Len Goodman's taste? Remember, he gave them a 7, the lowest score handed out all night.

Gilles Marini's naughty thoughts and more backstage scoop

Of course not.

She sailed on through to the semifinals, along with Melissa Rycroft, who was one point shy of perfection over the course of two weeks; Emmitt Smith, still the charisma king if not the top dog as he was in his championship season; Kelly Monaco, whose chemistry with partner Val Chmerkovskiy can't be beat; and Apolo Ohno, whose shot at being the most decorated winter Olympian and Dancing With the Stars competitor lives on.

But you realize what that means right?

As expected, it was the end of the road for Kirstie Alley and Maks Chmerkovskiy, whose time had clearly come after Kirstie wore what appeared to be a nightgown during her paso doble.

"The second time around, it was very special to me," Kirstie said of her all-star season. "To be asked, first of all, to come back was an honor...I learned more about dancing, believe it or not. I wanted to thank Maks because he's so patient with me and so helpful...I want to thank our fans. I love you!"

But it was also the end of the line for Gilles Marini, who had the highest cumulative point total for the season coming in to tonight's elimination. (Not to mention the highest T.I., or Towel Intelligence.)

"You know, I felt it because those community scores for the last two weeks, it was a bit iffy," the hunky Frenchman said. "In the end it's just an incredible experience and I had the chance to do it twice. I tried my very best." Of his partner, defending champ Peta Murgatroyd, he called her "an angel."

"I want to thank my wife," Gilles added. "It's been quite a challenge for the family...and without her, I'm really nothing."

Well, he remains a winner in our book.

Next week, the top 5 will perform two more routines apiece--first they'll dance to hits from Michael Jackson's Bad, which is marking its 15th anniversary, and then they'll perform new styles matched with irregular themes.
